| I was speaking to two of the leaders of a business organizations the other day about the closing of Jeld Wen and 90 jobs. I asked why barriers are we facing in our community. I am being told that our overhead for businesses is higher than other communities. For example, our Insurance Fire Rating is a 5 within the city and 2 in other cities resulting in lower insurance premiums. Taxes of course are another issue as well as utility costs. So a group of us have decided to find out what is needed to make our county more business friendly. I heard a story the other day about a local property owner, getting an older house ready to sell was told by the city he had to move his electrical box 1 inch lower to be in compliance with the city ordinance. He left messages to talk to one of the Electrical code officials, no response to three phone call messages. So he went down to City Hall, wanting to talk to him or his supervisor. Was given the runaround, after the supervisor got up and left his office without speaking to citizen. The citizen insisted that he come back down to city hall so he could speak to him and it ended up in a pretty loud discussion. I could certainly see where if the issue was related to safety, that the correction should be made, but to make sure that house electrical meter was one inch lower so that the meter reader could read it, give me a break, the house is decades old. Many topics on the horizon to discuss. One being the present tax rate for Navarro College when other counties are not taxed. Be there Monday Nov 2 at 5:45 pm PUSH Committee. If you cant be there then email me with topics or suggestions or recommendations to fix our community. |

i have good intentions to go, if that works out is another question. but it sounds interesting enough. if nothing else it is always fun to hear horror stories about our community, and be given reasons to move to ennis, waxahachie or athens. _________________

I would have told them when Oncor came out to replace the box it would THEN be lowered- until then I will have a step stool outside for the reader.
The taxes are going to be of greater concern once they find out how many 100% disabled veterans have filed for the 100% tax exemption on their homesteaded property- there are MANY, I am told by the tax office. Me being one of them and I don't feel bad about filing for it either. So the county, city, and all other taxing entities will be hurting even more in the budgets. Time to cut the fat- get a city manager that is worth a shit, find employees that are more interested in finding ways to make this town a destination for shopping, recreation, and JOBS, work on the school district's issues of not educating our children, allowing unspeakable things to go on in the schools and nothing is done about it other than sweeping it under the rug, the list goes on and on.
I'm gonna leave it at that cuz I was getting UGLY in the rest of my soapbox sermon.
Might want to check into the rumor I heard about Corsicana Bedding thinking of moving out of state, and check to see how many people left or was let go at Guardian. It may shock you. Are they going to close too? Who knows? Sure looks like it to some ..... _________________ "We must become the change we want to see"- Mahatma Ghandi |

Salsamaker
When did you hear about Corsicana Bedding ???
I heard recently that Guardian has reduced workforce down from 400 to 300. Working 4 days a week. Will be off 1 week at Thanskgiving and 2 weeks at Christmas. No bonuses. And if an employee not have 3 weeks vacation to cover time off during holidays no christmas for the family either. It is a tough time all around this town, with very little concern for the regular folks from the Big Cheeses as City Hall.
Come to our meeting on Monday week Nov 2 at Library and help us with some ideas to make things better in our little hamlet |

I heard about Corsicana bedding a couple weeks ago but I will not say who told me about it as it is just rumor at this point.
As far as coming to the meeting on Nov 2nd- I think not. My ideas were put on this website, use them if you'd like.
It seems all these little groups do is backstab, bitch and whine about things but never get anything accomplished. Oh yeah, and hob nob in their little social circles- not really interested in what the commoners have to say.
Nothing will change UNTIL there is a changing of the old guard at city hall and there are heads rolling out the door. Stephen Andrews seems to be trying by actually looking at the budget vs being a rubber stamping good ole boy, that gives one hope. But then I read where the city manager can move money around at will- Roane Rd will NEVER be fixed I am afraid.
Nah, I will be at home looking at jobs in the metroplex for the hubby so we can get the hell outta this hole. After all, I have nothing to hold me here- no roots even though I attempted to bring my talents to a few organizations in town and help out where I could- seems outsiders are not welcome here. I tried for 6 years to like this place, I will not miss much. Although I am sure we will be stuck here a couple more years, I have nothing left to give this town. _________________ "We must become the change we want to see"- Mahatma Ghandi |
